Ablakwa conveys Zoomlion to clean SHSs voters enrollment focuses

The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa following the Electoral Commission’s announcement to embark on a 2-day voters registration exercise for eligible students in Senior High Schools has deployed the Zoomlion Ghana Limited to carry out multiple daily disinfection exercise in 5 SHSs in his constituency.

Mr. Ablakwa said the deployment of the waste management giant to disinfect Senior High Schools (SHSs) is to ensure that students, teaching and non-teaching staff, polling agents, Electoral Commission Officials, security personnel, and the media are safe from the novel coronavirus.

According to him the decision by the Commission to conduct the exercise in Schools is rather unfortunate and strange following some reported COVID-19 cases in some Senior High Schools recently.

News went viral on Sunday July 5, 2020 that some six students of the Accra Girls have tested positive for the deadly virus that has claimed 129 lives as of July 11, 2020.

A statement released by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in line with the Accra Girls SHS reported cases confirmed that a teacher and his spouse had also tested positive for the respiratory disease.

The Member of parliament on his Facebook timeline registered disagreement with EC saying he is vehemently against the Commission’s decision to keep students in school considering the worsening cases of the locally transmitted coronavirus.

“I believe in all good conscience to have contributed my little bit to keep the students in particular safe for now as we continue the advocacy to have schools closed just as Kenya and Nigeria did this week”.
