Covid-19 – Rapid spread in Northen Region.

The Northern Regional Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr. Hilarious, Abiwu has said that, there has been a surge in Covid -19 cases in the Northern Region since January this year. “Generally it is the active age group who are getting the infected,” he explained.

He said two cases were recorded in the last week of December 2020 then it  jumped to 19 cases and in  just a week it moved to 52 and currently 103.

Dr Abiwu said the northern region currently has 79 active cases with three (3) critically ill.

He believes with the numbers currently being tested the figures are likely to rise.

The Deputy Director said the ages most affected are between 20 and 45 adding that very few people are below 15 years. Dr. further explained that, the region in total has in total recorded 19 death.

According to Dr. Abiwu, the Tamale Metropolis is accounting for close to 80 percents of the cases whiles an important number is from the Sagnarigu Municipality, citing Savelugu, Saboba and Gusheigu has recorded two cases each.

He further explained that seven district in total have recorded cases in the northern region.
