The former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and Executive Director of Henry Djaba Foundation has supported 50 PWDS Muslims with assorted items as part of the Ramadan fasting and prayers.
Madam Otiko Djaba, who is already supporting PWDs in all 16 regions of Ghana, is committed to ensuring that the poor and vulnerable in society especially the PWDs enjoy a dignified life.
According to the former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection they have been supporting Muslims with who are living with disabilities for the past 2 years during their ramadan festival and these will help people living with disability to live healthy, productive, independent and dignified lives.
She said the situation in Ghana created discrimination, exclusion, isolation and dragged persons with disabilities into poverty, thereby increasing the burden of taking care of the people with disabilities on the family, the society and individuals.
Madam Otiko Djaba who has through her Foundation launched an initiative to mobilise at least 16,000 wheelchairs but they have been able to mobilise only 400 of the wheelchairs and appealed to agencies, Non-Governmental and religious organisations, individuals as well as local and international organisations to support her initiative to mobilise at least 1,000 wheelchairs per each of the 16 regions to support persons living with disabilities in the country.
