GOVERNMENT URGED TO STRENGTHEN ENGAGEMENT WITH GRIB TO HELP BOOST THE RICE SECTOR IN GHANA

President of the Ghana Rice Inter- professional Body (GRIB) Nana Adjei Ayeh II has called for the need to strengthen coordination and engagement with Government to ensure a vibrant and robust rice sector in Ghana.

According to him, this is necessary to help solve the challenges currently affecting the rice sector such as poor financing due high interest rate on loans taken by rice farmers as well as poor mechanization or lack of equipment which affects the planting and harvesting of rice in the Country.

He also added that 70% of rice production in Ghana is under rain fed and hence the need for dams and proper storage systems to help improve the situation and develop the sector.

He made this known at the Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Rice Inter- professional Body (GRIB) where new national executives of the group were also elected.
