Yesterday 31st May, 2021 Ghana joined the rest of the world to mark “World No Tobacco Da” celebrated by Member States of World Health Organization since 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and diseases it causes.
In view of this the Bono Regional Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Secretariat in Sunyani which also caters for Bono East and Ahafo regions stormed Techiman to hold series of sensitization campaigns in schools, markets, bus terminals and radio talk shows.
Speaking in an interview with the Media, Madam Francisca Patoah Gyarko a Senior Regulatory Officer at FDA revealed that tobacco was very harmful to the body and users stand higher health risks especially in this COVID-19 pandemic era hence all should endeavor to “Commit to quit” which is the theme for this year’s celebrations. For his part,Mr. Kyeremeh Yeboah Richard also a Senior Regulatory Officer cautioned the youths not to be pushed by peer pressures to go into smoking because it could jeopardize their future and also advised Parents to keep eyes on their children especially with the company they keep in order not to be lured into such social vices.
