The Divisional Chief of Asesewa, Nene Ofei Tagbaja I, has held a crucial engagement meeting with leaders of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the district to ensure full compliance with the 15% reduction in transport fares as directed by the union’s national executive.
In a press statement issued on May 29, 2025, the chief revealed that the meeting was necessitated by reports of non-compliance among some transport operators, who continued to charge GH₵25 instead of the reduced GH₵22 for trips from Asesewa to Odumase.
“The attention of the divisional chief has been drawn to the delayance of transport fare reduction in Asesewa,” the statement noted. Adding; “I engaged the various transport union in the district and we agreed that with immediate effect all transport operators should charge the approved reduced prices.”
The chief stressed that any driver who refuses to comply with the new fares should be reported to union authorities for necessary action. He emphasized that such collaboration was essential to ensuring fairness and alleviating the financial burden on passengers.
Reacting to the engagement, the station master of the GPRTU Asesewa branch, Billy Paul confirmed that the union had responded to the chief’s concerns.
“We met the chief and brought the prices down,” he said. “However, we as a union are organizing all other unions to meet the District Chief Executive on Monday to agree finally on some of the differences in the calculations.”

The issue of non-compliance has also surfaced in Odumase. The GPRTU station master there, Mr. Kumi, told Trust FM last Wednesday that their branch had implemented a GH₵1 fare reduction on the Asesewa-Odumase route. He explained that this reduction takes into account previous internal fare adjustments made to attract passengers who prefer the Metro Mass Transit buses operating in the same corridor.
The 15% fare reduction directive was issued by the national leadership of GPRTU and took effect on May 24, 2025. It followed a decrease in fuel prices and is applicable across all categories of public transport nationwide.
Nene Ofei Tagbaja I has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all transport operators in Asesewa comply with the directive in full and called on passengers to support the effort by reporting violators.
