The Divisional Chief of Asesewa, Nene Ofei Tagbaja, in collaboration with the district assembly, has ordered the relocation of traders from the Asesewa lorry station and the principal streets to the designated market area effective Friday, 21 February 2025.
The Acting Public Relations Officer for the Division, Mr. Samuel Akor highlighted that the move aims to enhance public safety, maintain order, and prevent potential accidents caused by unauthorized trading at the market.
Similar social media post from the Chairman of the Asesewa Zonal Council, Hon Daniel Tetteh Kwesi read, “the district assembly has declared that selling at the lorry station is illegal and warned traders to comply with the directive to avoid penalties.”
Authorities stress that the relocation will create a safer and more organized trading environment, benefiting both traders and customers.
The social media post which found it way on popular what’s app platforms further read, “Nene Ofei Tagbaja marked the start of the relocation process with a site visit to the lorry station and market, where he urged all affected traders to move to the designated market area to prevent conflicts with security personnel and the task force overseeing the exercise.”
Emphasizing that the relocation is entirely free, Mr Samuel Akor told Trust FM in an interview on Wednesday that, officials including the taskforce should not charge any amount unless the district assembly and the traditional authorities have jointly issued a public statement to the effect, calling for full cooperation from traders and stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition and the successful implementation of the decongestion initiative.
According to closed source from the corridor of power within the traditional authority, all the security officials in the district are part of the taskforce for the decongestion exercise.
