The Electoral Commission of Ghana has finally released a statement stating the reason for suspending the District Assembly Elections in Lower Manya Krobo.
In a statement released on Monday, 16 January, 2023, the Commission said “this has become necessary due to an application for injunction filed against the Electoral Commission at the High Court in Koforidua.”
This portal,trustfmonline.com reported on Thursday, 13 January 2023 that the election could be put on hold following an application for injunction filed by Michael Tetteh and Angel Agyemang.
The applicants are accusing the EC of violating their right to vote and be voted for as enshrined in article 33 of the 1992 Constitution.

They also say the commission did not allow them to register as voters after attaining 18 years.
The injunction motion is scheduled for hearing on 24 January, 2023, the EC said a new date for the election in Lower Manya Krobo would be announced in due course.
Until this release, some candidates speaking to Trust 98.3 FM Agoo Ghana from Manya Kpongunor on Monday, 16 January, 2023 noted that the EC has not officially informed them about the suspension.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Tetteh Angmorter, who is contesting for the Mampong Electoral Area Seat said the suspension of the election is better for development.
While he argued that the system will now merge with the national assembly election calendar and thus facilitate the expansion of electoral areas in the Krobo area, listeners who reacted through social media lamented stating, “is Sir Pee and the colleague saying the assembly should be empty or those currently in office should overstay their term?” Hillary Kodji queried.
On her part, Mrs. Vivian Asime resident of Lower Manya Krobo bemoaned the situation of the fact that the Assembly Members connect the communities with the management of the Assembly for an answer to their challenges.
But she was quick to say that some assembly members need training and orientation to play their role effectively.
“Some Assembly Members do not understand their work. Management of the Assembly must give them more training,” Mrs. Vivian said.
The District Assembly Elections in Lower Manya Krobo had gone under court litigations in 2010 and 2015, with the latter favoring the Electoral Commission.
