The Ministry of Health’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Ofei-Baah, has confirmed that there are currently no unemployed medical doctors in Ghana.
During an interview discussing the Ministry of Finance’s recent approval to recruit over 15,000 nurses, Ofei-Baah stated that all qualified medical doctors have been placed in public service roles.
Ofei-Baah emphasized that the Ministry has successfully staffed district and municipal hospitals to improve service delivery and address sector unemployment. The current recruitment drive focuses on nurses who graduated between 2020 and 2022, completed their licensure exams, and finished their rotational services.
He made this claims in an interview with the Host of Trust FM’s Agoo Ghana, Omanba Kodwo Boafo.
He also addressed a claim by the Nurses and Midwifery Association (NMC) which reported around 65,000 unemployed nurses, asserting that this figure was exaggerated.
Ofei-Baah noted that about 80 per cent of nurses who graduated in 2020 are now employed, along with more than 25,000 nurses who were recruited in 2022 after completing their rotations.
