The Director of the Lower Manya Krobo Agriculture Directorate, Mr. Godswill Glante, a Person Living with Disability (PWD), was physically assaulted, and the directorate’s offices were seized on Monday, 9 December 2024.
According to Mr. Glante, a group identifying themselves as members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attacked him, alleging they were acting on the orders of Member of Parliament (MP) Elect, Hon Ebenezer Okletey Teilarbi.
“The assailants twisted my hand and neck, causing fractures,” Mr. Glante said.
Noting further, “They also confiscated my phone, deleting all its contents. Assembly Member Ohlanda, who is the NDC Constituency Organizer, was involved, locking the offices and warehouse containing fertilisers intended for distribution to farmers.”
Mr. Glante has filed a police report and received a medical referral for treatment.
Similar incidents have been reported across the region following the announcement of the 2024 general election results and the declaration of Mr. John Mahama as president-elect.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Agriculture Directorate also faced an attempted fertiliser theft by suspected NDC supporters, though no injuries were reported.
In the Upper Manya Krobo District, attacks targeted the only radio station and the Agriculture Department, resulting in the theft of fertilisers and fish feed intended for the government’s Aquaculture for Food and Jobs program.
Public toilets were also vandalized, and funds were stolen. Further attacks reportedly targeted the District Chief Executive’s residence.
These incidents highlight a pattern of post-election violence and underscore the need for swift intervention to ensure public safety and the protection of public property.
However, all telephone call efforts to get the MP, Hon. Teilarb and the NDC Youth Organizer, Oblanda to respond to the allegation proved unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
