The Christian community and believers in the Upper Manya Krobo (UKM) District have interceded for the country, asking God for peaceful coexistence among Ghanaians before, during and after the next general elections in 2024.
Reverend ministers and churches belonging to the Asesewa Local Council of Churches as well as other Christian faith-based organizations went on their knees, pleading with the almighty God to take the country out of the current economic woes.
The session was part of activities scheduled to mark the two years ‘Thanksgiving’ service for Trust 98.3FM as the program saw people of all ages including children going down on their knees to plead with their maker to show the country, leaders and citizens His mercies and favor.
Notwithstanding the current economic hardship coupled with high inflation of 50.3% and cost of living, the Upper Manya Krobo constituency was noted as part of election hotspot communities by the Ghana Police Service prior to the 2020 General Elections.
The Ghanaian cedi had depreciated sharply against many currencies with particular focus on the U.S. dollar, forcing the government to take some measures, notably restricted access to foreign exchange for importation of certain goods and debt restructuring to stabilize the economy.
The situation also forced the government to run to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss ways of restructuring the economy to ensure stability including bargaining with countries Ghana is indebted to, to cancel some of their debts.
The two day event which began on Sunday, 8 January 2023 saw Reverend Ministers Divine Nartey, Local Council of Churches Chairman, B.L. Ametepy, Maurice Ledi, John Kweku, G. Nartey, Solomon Narh, Father Nantakkyi of the Anglican church, Joseph Gomer of the Presbyterian church glorifying the function.
The rest were the listeners of the station, youth, and the general public.
