A section of the public in the Upper Manya Krobo District has accused the officer in charge of environmental health and sanitation for being incompetent and irresponsibly neglecting his duty as the District Waste Management Officer.
The accusations among others suggest that Mr. Julius Dzonyrah doesn’t take responsibility of having oversight supervision on persons contracted to keep the municipality clean, thus making Asesewa, the capital of Upper Manya Krobo very filthy and unkempt community.
“In the heart of the district capital lies the famous Asesewa market which was featured in the then basic 3 Reader but now engulfed in filth due to what is suggesting to mean lack of leadership,” said a caller on Tuesday.
Mr. Dzonyrah in an interview on Monday took to a banter when the host of Agoo Ghana, Omanba Kodwo Boafo asked his assessment of the sanitation situation in the district, saying the later was lambasting him even before he was called to talk, on the query of “what is the District Environmental Health and Sanitation Officer doing about the situation?”
The story continued to Tuesday when the sub-committee chairperson for Social Services was called to react to the situation, where he noted that they were aware of the filth in the market and the health hazards it poses.
Noting some dirty areas in the market, Mr. John Kweku pointed that, food venders were also part of the problem as they dump the refuse they make in gutters and liter the environment anyhow.
Nonetheless, as part of efforts to enquire why waste was almost enveloping the district capital, the team further went to the district office of Zoomlion Ghana only to meet a locked gate of about 12:30pm on Monday.
