The Asesewa Area Council in the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly (UMKDA) held a stakeholder meeting and discussed development-related issues in the various electoral areas within the Area Council.
This came off over the weekend, Saturday, June 15 2024, at the Church of Pentecost Central Auditorium in Asesewa.
The meeting was organized by Assembly members representing eight electoral areas within the Asesewa Area Council, including Asesewa Communities A, B, C, D, EF, Brepaw Lower/Akotoe, Aworworso/Akusu, and Akohia/Kwabia.
The meeting aimed to discuss key challenging issues and promote development in their respective areas.
The strictly non-partisan meeting saw high-profile personalities, including the Chairperson of the day, Nkabomhene of Okorase-Akuapim, Nana Dr. Akwetey Gyamfi I, Engineer Philip Padi of Klomagbi, Honorable Felix Nartey Odjao, Honorable Bismark Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo constituency, some Departmental Heads of the Assembly, Dadaematseme, Manyeme and many other personalities.
Reading the purpose of the gathering, the Chairperson of the Area Council, Honorable Daniel Kwesi Tettey spelt out the various reasons for organizing the program with his team, pointing to water, health and sanitation, drainage, and sewage as the main concerns.
He appealed to well-wishing Krobos in and outside Upper Manya to support developmental programs and projects that will give the district a facelift at a befitting level.
Some of the dignitaries made various promises to support the course in line with the purpose of the gathering, with the chairperson opting to drill one borehole out of the two requested.
Meanwhile, the MP also promised to donate two polytanks amidst various donations made by participants at the event, including a two thousand Ghana cedis (2,000.00) cash donation from the Commission.
The program was characterized by beautiful performances from the various basic schools in the aforementioned electoral areas, with some performing cultural dances related to the different tribal communities while others recited poems to create awareness of water conservation.
With 254 communities, both rural and urban, the Upper Manya Krobo District has 33 electoral areas being demarcated by the Electoral Commission.
Though the area is dominated by farming activity, the road networks to its market centres are highly deplorable.
According to the 2021 Housing and Population Census conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service, the district is home to 70,676 people, with Ga-Adangme being the majority ethnic group. The Ewe, Akans, Guans, and others followed in that succession.
